Job Summary
The ABAP Development Engineer will develop the testing of SAP solutions and associated middleware. Will create and manage the necessary test cases and strategy which are required to enable successful project delivery. Creates test cases that support the requirements of the business and the specific project in terms of landscape and performance or resilience aligning with the overall IT and SAP solution strategies. This role is viewed as a contributor to understand, evaluate and implement recommendations for technical solutions that provide the best outcome for the business and will involve collaboration with team members and consultants.
The role will also focus on
Service introduction of new development code or project or programs being transitioned into run service.
Change Management and Controls
Automation and on going service improvement.
Also responsible for contributing to the testing of SAP solutions through creation and execution of cases. They will develop and manage testing for SAP related projects or programs, which could be through in house testing and or through a partner. This role involves both leading a team and working largely on their own initiative

Job Responsibilities
  • Reviews the recommendations based on highly complex internal business requirements by means of interviews, workflow analyses and facilitated discussions with users.
  • Translates users highly complex business requirements into detailed functional designs for development, testing and implementation.
  • Develops, configures, integrates programs for highly complex SAP Components including, but not limited to SAP S4, SAP Fiori, SAP SLT, SAP BW, SAP PI or PO, SAP BODS etc.
  • Performs highly complex code reviews, writes technical specifications, project planning and developments in SAP ABAP, integration and BTP areas
  • Develops and implements SAP standards within designs and challenge where SAP standard is not proposed.
  • Develops highly complex test cases for unit, regression, performance and user acceptance testing for SAP components, but not limited to SAP S4, SAP Fiori, SAP SLT, SAP BW, SAP PI or PO, SAP BODS etc.
  • Stays abreast of industry leading best practices and brings them to the attention of the leadership team for innovative application. Develop strong partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders to meet business needs.
  • Displays mastery in SAP Solution Manager, such as Charm and Monitoring technical and E2E
  • Sharpens the saw and makes learning resources available fore team Displays mastery in knowledge bases and certifications such as but not limited to SAP Certified Development Specialist ABAP for SAP HANA 2.0, ABAP with SAP NetWeaver 7.50, Learning Hub etc.
  • Accountable for advancing capabilities on team for highly complex test projects across an IT landscape, Test management skills at an advanced level, Testing automation tools, ISTQB Test Certification at foundation level or above
  • Develops and owns highly complex or visible project plans while ensuring timely delivery of deliverables to meet project or program milestones.
  • Performs integration of SAP SaaS solutions with the existing SAP solutions.
  • Identifies and communicates risks and issues impacting business rules, functional requirements, and specifications.
  • Participates in and contributes to managing the scope of applications and related changes.
  • Leads trainings and serves as formal mentor to less experienced team members
  • Develops and proposes options with pros or cons and risk, and works with stakeholders to finalize the best solution that meets business needs
  • Interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange highly complex information related to areas of specialization. Serves as a liaison between engineering, quality assurance and non-technical stakeholders throughout the development and deployment process.
  • Anticipates, prevents and eliminates problems and roadblocks before they occur.
  • Performs as subject matter expert to less experienced team members. May participate in teaching and training members of work team. Mentors less experienced members of the team.
  • Owns a functional area. Breaks large requests down into sub tasks, gives higher level status updates. Writes test plans. Takes operational responsibility. Sets measurable goals, and meets them. Reviews code changes.
  • Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. Interacts with direct team of accountability, peers and or managers in other teams. May interact with vendors and or customers to share information and improve workflow processes.
  • May design specifications of assigned projects and may lead in implementation.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all areas of the professional function and advanced in depth specialization in some.
  • Participates in developing technical or business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools. Has proven expertise in software design, architecture and software and system interrelationships. Has expert knowledge of programming languages important to the organization.
  • Sets software engineering project schedules, defines project parameters and tasks and monitors project tasks. Develops and keeps the vision of the project, leading others toward its completion.
  • Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Owns the development and rollout for an entire product, or large project. Champions process Scrum, TDD, etc. Writes tech specs and identifies risks before starting major projects. Sets standards. Goes out of their way to reduce complexity. As needed, takes on additional tech lead responsibilities for driving an initiative to completion.
  • Allocates and tracks the work of individual contributors.
  • Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud based or internet related tools for highly strategic and complex or high risk undertakings. Plays a leading role in new software design and development.
  • May develop budget for functional area. Manages budget to plan. May be accountable for area budget and delivering against business goals or objectives.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree and 4 years of experience in SAP Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in SAP Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience with technical design process and models. Experience in Engineering, Software Engineering or similar field
  • At least 3 years of experience with requirements specification and development, such as process or functional requirements definition methods, JAD or RAD sessions, use case development, process flow diagrams. Experience writing code for moderately complex applications
  • At least 3 years of expertise in Quality assurance, build test cases, test automation for unit, end to end integration, performance testing, ABAP programming, Application development, HTML5, Java, Mobile applications, SAP ERP, SAP S or 4HANA and 3 years in the traditional SAP field
  • Experience designing or building moderately complex SAP applications or automation or deployment automation.
  • Experience writing automated test scripts
  • Testing expertise in cloud based SAP S4, CAR, BW implementations and coding or scripting solutions to address moderately complex problems
  • Expertise in operational topics before they become issues and recommending and implementing strategies mitigating them. When issues do occur, triage issues to identify the correct problem fast and mitigate them from occurring again.
  • Experience engaging and the executive level
  • Experience with technical project management
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and or cross functional team leadership
  • Willing to travel up to or at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

  • Expert in SAP Retail and Finance solution tester
  • Experience working in a large retail organization
  • Commercial and technical experience, including experience working within an IT service area.
  • Experience driving relationships with the business, stakeholders and partners.
  • Experience assessing business proposals, project scoping, feasibility analysis and cost estimation.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders on the solutions for proposed initiatives
