Job Description

Job Summary:

Secures the facility and protects patients, equipment, staff, and visitors. Helps facilitate emergency communications within health care facility.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Assists with incoming phone calls. Facilitates communication within the facility and assists with call-backs of medical personnel. Opens secure areas for employees to work. Monitors closed circuit monitors and responds to intrusion and duress alarms. Responds to medical gas and refrigerator alarms. Provides a secure environment within the facility for staff, patients, and visitors. Coordinates emergency personnel during disaster conditions. Secures and protects possible crime scenes, dispatches officers to calls, and responds to calls requiring assistance. Restrains rowdy, belligerent, violent, intoxicated, and emotionally disturbed patients and visitors through the use of non-violent crisis intervention or by the use of force if necessary for the purpose of treatment or incarceration. Maintains security logs, documents, and files related to investigations and other activities relevant to facility security. Prepares incident reports during each tour of duty for review by supervisor. Monitors and communicates with local police, sheriff, fire departments, ambulance, and emergency management civil defense when emergencies occur to ensure preparedness by the Health Facilities for any disaster situation that may develop. Assists with disaster training for Health Services staff. Maintains a thorough knowledge of laws on a federal, state, tribal, and city level pertaining to activities within the facility; including knowledge of the departmental policies and procedures. Provides response to motorists needing assistance. Provides security for patient's personal effects. Other duties may be assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Health Services Security Officer I - None required
Health Services Security Officer II - An Additional two (2) years of experience in a related field.
Health Services Security Officer III - At least four years of experience in a related field; no exceptions.


COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database, Internet, and Word Processing software, and Order processing systems.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals on "one on one" bases in order to de-escalate stressful situations.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must comply with Cherokee Nation Health Services Policies and Procedures. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Working knowledge is also required of the general health care safety policy.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
