Job Description:
The School of Technologies and Trades at Madison College has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, knowledgeable, and engaging individual to join the team. We are seeking a Senior Lab Coordinator in our Transportation department to help maintain and improve the overall quality of the Auto Collision Program by assisting with student retention, recruitment, and success. Madison College is a comprehensive, open-access institution providing a high-quality education to a diverse population, including first-generation college students.
In this role you will provide a common point of contact within the Auto Collision Program for students, staff, and industry representatives. As well, maintain industry and supplier contacts both in person and via electronic means and working to maximize the amount of equipment, etc. the department can acquire while working within budgetary limitations.
This position reports to the Associate Dean – School of Technologies and Trades.

Essential Duties
  • Budget/Purchasing
    • Manages purchasing of tools, equipment, and supplies. Secures purchase orders.
    • Obtain quotes as necessary for capital equipment in accordance with purchasing policies.
    • Coordinate installation of large capital equipment projects as necessary to stay within budget
    • Monitor department budget and purchases using PeopleSoft system.
  • Customer Service/External Communication
    • Assists in customer service calls, estimating costs or repair and scheduling pick-up of completed projects.
    • Procure donations from individuals and discounts from tool suppliers, tool manufacturers, automobile manufacturers, etc.
    • Maintain and develop relationships with industry representatives (automobile manufacturers, dealerships, service centers, third party trainers, tool/equipment manufacturers, etc.).
    • Serve as a central point of contact within the Auto Collision Department for full-time faculty, part-time faculty, other department staff/faculty, students, and general public.
    • Attend conferences as needed to represent Madison College and develop new contacts.
  • Lab Equipment - Repair/Maintain
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and tools (including computer based diagnostic tool updates).
    • Organizes and conducts the maintenance and repair.
    • Research emerging technologies and equipment.
  • In-Lab Support
    • Assist students and instructors in labs through the organization and repair of vehicles and lab equipment.
    • Coordinates the setup and take down of demonstration equipment and stores shop equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Documentation
    • Maintain required documentation for program ICAR certification.
    • Manage financial accounts with the Foundation, including maintaining contacts and donation documentation.
    • Maintain required documentation for donation of vehicles, equipment, etc.
    • Assist with long-term departmental planning (unit plans, capital budget plans, operational budgets, etc.)
    • Maintains appropriate equipment and materials documents, including related lab safety considerations.
  • Program/Student Recruitment
    • Ensure recruiting materials are available within the department, schedule recruiting visits for instructors, conduct facility tours for prospective students, and assist with other recruiting efforts as needed.
    • Assist with Auto Collision Department website maintenance and design changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to work productively with limited supervision, while planning, organizing, and completing complex tasks.
  • Knowledge and experience with Auto Collision Technician job duties including, but not limited to body repair, estimating, Uni-body and frame straightening, welding, heating, and cutting of vehicle components, paint application and color correction. Knowledge of auto body equipment, diagnosis, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair techniques. Knowledge and experience with the I-CAR Collision Repair Course and finish matching.
  • Skill in preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and service of machinery.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Technical Diploma in Auto Collision or related field
    • Associates Degree preferred, but not required
  • Three (3) years relevant working experience
    • Forklift certification preferred, but not required
