The Optum Life Sciences Client Solutions team drives the adoption and use of technology solutions by managing, growing and developing relationships with research, scientific, and commercial leaders at life sciences companies through the use of Optum’s data assets and technology applications.

Optum's industry-leading data assets include clinically robust Electronic Health Record (EHR) data spanning the care continuum, eligibility-controlled affiliate and non-affiliate insurance claims data, a new class of deterministically-linked integrated EHR and claims data, and linked profile data including socio-economic information and health risk assessments (HRAs). Optum’s data assets enable our clients to enrich their view of the patient and the patient journey through the healthcare system, serving needs across a spectrum of functional areas including real world evidence, health economics and outcomes research, safety and surveillance, epidemiology, and product commercialization.

We’re now looking for a dynamic Senior Consultant to support Client Solutions, working closely with our clients across the industry

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Data and analytical support: Serves as the analytical data support lead, working with life science proprietary databases to support assigned Optum Life Science clients; assesses data-focused research questions submitted by clients, provides data director and principal with required analytical support for client discussions; able to ask/answer critical questions about data, doesn’t automatically take results at face value.
  • Key client intelligence leader: Conducts research to monitor key developments at LS clients including market updates, drug development pipeline, FDA approvals and other relevant news; synthesizes key insights to enhance overall strategy, service delivery and growth.
  • Amplifies team impact: Creates surplus value for client solutions by actively engaging in a broad range of internally-facing operational improvement projects at the direction of principal, serves as an internal connector working across teams to ensure client support needs are met. Independently walk through Optum LS data assets and applications, with live Q&A
  • Resource creation: Creates novel slide decks, packaging, case studies, proposals and other resources when required to support service delivery for director and principal.
  • Critical data-delivery support: provides director and principal with assistance by ensuring Optum data delivery team receives clearly-defined client specifications to facilitate successful data delivery. Handles TPA tracking and fulfillment, JIRA ticket follow ups in coordination with principals. Provides data summaries, counts and routine checks as required
  • Estimated time allocation: Internal support (Analytical, data-delivery, intel): 50%; Client support: 30%, Internal improvement focused: 20%

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of professional experience (or graduate degree with 1+ years of professional experience) Professional experience must be in life sciences industry, healthcare field, or life sciences management consulting
  • 1+ years of experience supporting client or large projects for internal/external customers, preferably in the life sciences industry
  • 1+ years of experience with patient-level healthcare data (claims, EHR, pharma, etc.) to support internal and external clients
  • 1+ years of experience evaluating data to present findings based on business deliverable/requirements
  • Experience presenting to a variety of stakeholders thru various media
  • Solid understanding of PowerPoint and Excel (PowerPoint - must be able to create and modify PPT’s) (EXCEL - must be able to create spreadsheet, pivot tables, linking cells with little to no supervision)
  • Experience working across clients and supporting other team members in fulfillment of data and advanced analytics responsibilities
  • Travel - up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of or experience with SQL or R

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
