Job Description

As a Senior Pharmacy Benefit Clinical Consultant, you will serve as the primary clinical lead consultant for employer market team and strategic clients on pharmacy benefit related topics. You will collaborate with other clinical leaders on clinical pharmacy strategy, program development and management. You will interact and create relationships with brokers, client executives, human resource personnel, and internal partners to create, communicate and implement pharmacy strategy within the context of the overall health and welfare strategy. In addition, you will work along with brokers and consultants to identify business needs and create custom solutions for clients focused on creating and maintaining a quality, cost effective pharmacy benefit. You will support strategic initiatives that will include procurement efforts, contract negotiation and ongoing vendor management, while providing industry expertise and insight related to pharmacy trends and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Broker and Client Management

Working with the brokers, clients, PBMs, and internal partners the candidate will:

  • Provide clinical leadership and insights to support brokers and clients.
  • Identify and maintain appropriate multi-level client relationships and a deep understanding of client business and corporate culture resulting in high client satisfaction and retention
  • Develop and implement strategic clinical plans based on unique client needs to achieve targeted long- and short-term
  • Track and measure vendor contract performance including clinical operational and financial
  • Lead and participate in ongoing client meetings including:
    • PBM implementation support
    • Vendor review meetings
    • Independent strategy and performance assessment meetings
  • Use analytical skills/tools to identify and present opportunities to clients that will serve to support trend management, cost savings, identify FWA, etc.
  • Collaborate in a matrixed organization with internal stakeholders on custom projects and
  • Review PBM provided pharmacy program indicators and reports for ongoing opportunities and program performance
  • Create and maintain ongoing reports and documentation related to client relationship and program
  • Support new business development

Program and Business Development

  • Assess opportunity for expanding services within existing client
  • Develop client relationships to support client
  • Participation in conferences and other forums for showcasing program experience and
  • Participate in internal workgroups to develop new programs, services, policies and publications based on the continual assessment of client and market

Account Implementation

  • Provide oversight, guidance and serve as an advocate for the broker and client to ensure vendor requirements are being met and service levels are adequate throughout vendor
  • Identify issues and concerns for appropriate escalation and resolution to ensure successful

RFP Process Management

  • Support the development and management of the RFP process for clients including RFP creation, vendor selection meetings and contract execution (in conjunction with lead consultant internal RFP coordinator).
  • Participate in general RFI/RFP process via scoring and assistance with this annual process.

Contract Review and Execution

  • Support the review process for new and renewing vendor contracts through final execution to ensure current terms, definitions, and compliance with RFP
  • Support the creation and renewal of client agreements to create appropriate scope of services and fee

Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)

  • Extensive knowledge of PBM and specialty pharmacy environment (5 years minimum experience).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills and client relationship management
  • Experienced in public speaking.
  • Strong clinical pharmacy skills. PharmD preferred.
  • Ability to develop clinical management strategies and implement programs for client Rx benefit
  • Strong financial analysis skills. MBA preferred.
  • Strong experience with Broker, TPA and Captive markets
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills with the following tools: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Travel is required, but typically less than 20%
  • Business development experience

The national average salary for this role is $140k-180k in base pay and exclusive of any bonuses or benefits. The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
