Job Description

Summary

Posted: Jan 30, 2023
Role Number: 200460427
The Wireless Power Technology team is pioneering new ways of charging your devices. Our flagship product’s name, the MagSafe charger, says it all. It is magnetic, it charges fast, and above all, it is safe! Bringing all these aspects together requires careful orchestration of electromagnetism, passive and active electronics, state-of-the-art safety algorithms, communication over inductive links, and, of course, an appealing product design. Our products touch millions of lives each day… with consistency and dependability. Ever wonder how we achieve this? We rely on rigorous models that help predict the performance of various features across a range of products. We are looking for a system modeling and performance architect who is proficient in hardware/software interface. The candidate will help design and maintain models that are crucial to ensuring that our products perform consistently and dependably, well after they leave our hands. This role will have broad exposure to a variety of features that span a number of our products, and will collaborate with subject-matter experts from multiple domains. The successful candidate will be fluent in tools required to develop and maintain models. You will be responsible for developing system-level understanding of various aspects of wireless charging (although expertise in wireless power is not a prerequisite for this position) – power delivery, foreign-object detection, and communication and control. You will map this understanding into reproducible, predictive models. The models will provide quantitative insights to guide design improvements, and predict failure modes in factory builds, and during in-field operation. Your models will be used to strike optimal performance versus complexity and cost trade-offs.

Key Qualifications

  • Model development: Programming skills in C, MATLAB, Python, JMP (or other predictive analytics tools)
  • Digital signal processing: filter design, fixed-point implementations, embedded architectures and firmware, complex-baseband algorithms (a plus)
  • Statistics: Linear regression, monte-carlo simulations, design of experiments and ANOVA (nice to have)
  • Hardware/software interaction, and hardware bring-up and debug
  • Excellent documentation and presentation skills

Description

Computer modeling of next-generation communication links for wireless charging in multiple product spaces Modeling for foreign-object detection in wireless power transfer systems to enable unified solutions across products ecosystem Iterative improvement of model convergence through bench validation, including hardware prototyping and embedded firmware implementation Develop predictive models for various aspects of wireless power transfer, to provide statistical guaranteed-by-design of performance Statistical analysis for design-of-experiments and failure prediction Guide system-integration teams in failure analysis by using sensitivity analyses extracted from predictive models

Education & Experience

Masters or PhD in electrical engineering with focus in signal processing, communication and controls At least five years of relevant technical industrial experience Experience writing architectural specifications Experience with collaborating across cross-functional teams to execute complex tasks
