Systems Administrator - Billing Systems
St. Louis, MI or Charlotte, NC (Fully onsite)
We are seeking a systems administrator with experience supporting enterprise-scale billing systems for an important new role in network services. The administrator is responsible for activities that maintain and enhance the operation of the company’s billing systems, including software and networks that support billing workflows, data, and system integrations. They will troubleshoot operational issues across networks, system integrations, applications, and operating systems, and will advise the billing operations team about automation and key areas of improvement. The position requires full on-site presence in either St. Louis, MI or Charlotte, NC. This is a contract to hire opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot critical production issues across the billing platform and integrated applications and interfaces.
- Design and implement scripting for automation, monitoring, alarming and other administrative functions, e.g. Bash, CLI, or other scripting languages.
- Enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas.
- Analyze and improve existing support processes, including documentation as necessary.
- Provide guidance and contribute expertise to the operations support team.
- Identify and implement new automation, as well as improvements to existing automation for administrative tasks.
- Review O& M operating procedure documents and advise on improvements.
- Participate in Tier 3 support events, tasks, and activities.
- Provide technical solutions for alerts and incoming escalated tickets from our customers, including
troubleshooting and root cause assessment.
- Contribute to process definitions for Issue Management and Change Management
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in System Administration/Linux administration.
- Systems administration experience in environments running J2EE applications with application servers such as WebLogic.
- Clear understanding of the operating principles of enterprise production environments, including change management and general support procedures.
- Professional, team-oriented personality with experience working in a large support organization.
- At least 5 years of experience operating production systems.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
- Experience connecting major monitoring and alarm systems e.g.: AppDynamics or Splunk.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and in-depth.
- Knowledge of systems administration, scripting and building automation tools, and a thorough understanding of the
TCP/IP stack and the Unix environment are a must.
- Familiarity with ITIL/SRE principles.
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Familiarity with major ticketing systems and major software programming languages.
- Experience in troubleshooting software and systems in a distributed, internet-scale Linux environment
- Excellent problem solving and thought leadership skills.
- Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently with incomplete requirements.
- Team attitude with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Continuously push the production standard forward to develop a customer-centric culture with mature, efficient production processes within the company.
- Identify solutions and workarounds for technical challenges to do what is needed for the customer to get the best service out of our products and services.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting billing systems, specifically CSG.
- Experience in cable and/or communications related fields, and an understanding of the technologies,
processes, and principles of these industries.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL.
- Working knowledge in Java, JVM and J2EE
- Experience with Java containers such as WebLogic
