Job Description
What to Expect
The New Product Introduction Technical Project Manager is responsible for managing component level changes into the production lines and supporting the production launch of new products for specific engineering systems, i.e., Infotainment, Exteriors, Powertrain, Charging, etc. They will lead a cross-functional team to ensure engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain validation targets have been met for each change. This role will require having a strong mechanical/electrical engineering background to effectively manage the project/program from early prototype builds through to the launch of production. In this role the technical project manager acts as a liaison to the cross-functional groups in the launch of the product to ensure products are optimized for cost, manufacturability, testability, supply chain flexibility, and efficiency. Following the product launch, the technical project manager is responsible managing the flow of production, identifying critical elements for resolving to ensure there is a smooth transition to production within cost, quality, and capacity parameters. This role will also actively liaison with Service Engineering and Planning teams to strategize vehicle product compatibility, reduce service supply chain complexity and support critical projects.
What You’ll Do
- Drive all product change activities for new or revised products into the Service Manufacturing factory/factories. Clear target is to meet or exceed project/program milestones
- Participate in, and lead “cross functional” change control forums. Provide clear updates on status and recovery plans as necessary to bring projects back to target
- Work with design engineering to create, validate, and maintain the MBOM/product deviations for responsible group of parts
- Ensure all factory systems (MRP, ERP, MES, etc.) are validated and prepared for each transition and oversee the complete manufacturing validation for responsible group of parts. Drive supply chain readiness and handover from launch planning to production planning; oversee factory transition; and follow-up on excess/obsolescence and post change activities
- Steer overall validation plan creation (Success criteria/KPIs) for the product change or coordinated group of products to change
- Ensure that NPI processes and Environment, health, and safety are considered in all activities and manufacturing validations are followed in all doings (PCA, MRT, etc.)
- Organization and follow-up of open points/actions that are required to secure a non-event introduction of the change; ensure they’re conveyed and well communicated as actionable items
- Interact, integrate, and drive results across cross-functional teams in engineering, quality, production, production control, sales, service, etc
- Author timely project status, summary, and issue resolution tracking reports
- Administer NPI structure criteria’s and processes per commodity and innovate ongoing structure, and take lead on new program strategies
What You’ll Bring
- BA/BS, MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field or 1-3 years working in product development, ideally with multiple delivered products in a medium to high volume industry
