The veterinary assistant is an integral member of the veterinary health care team who has been educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes, and basic laboratory and clinical procedures. A veterinary assistant aids both veterinarians & veterinary technicians in caring for hospitalized patients, sets up laboratory tests, educates clients, and performs tasks from sterilization of equipment to post-operative care of patients. Candidates must enjoy working with both people and animals. They should be willing to learn and have an interest in animal science. This person should also be friendly, self-motivated to learn and to give input, caring, creative, dependable, proactive, cooperative, courteous, able to work under stress. Must be able to lift 40 pounds of dead weight, stand for long periods, and be willing to work with a full-time, flexible schedule.Compensation: Hourly rate commensurates with experience.
