Laura M. Scharle

Laura Scharle has been educating others in coastal ecology, estuarine science and maritime history since 2006.  She has spent 14 years running interpretive programs for Delaware Seashore State Park, and she also worked for the Maryland Environmental Service, where she coordinated all public tours and school field trips on Poplar Island, an internationally-recognized environmental restoration site in the Chesapeake Bay.

Laura now works as an independent contractor, providing ecotourism consulting services to small municipalities on the Eastern shore, including the Accomack-Northampton Planning District Commission, where she manages marketing and web content for VirginiaWaterTrails.org. Laura is a Certified Interpretive Guide, ACA L1 Kayak Instructor and a Virginia Certified Ecotour Guide.

Laura currently lives with her husband and son in Ocean Pines, MD. She serves on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee of the Ocean Pines Association, where she created the community’s water trails map.  In her spare time, Laura chips away at her lifetime goal to kayak 650+ miles around the entire Delmarva peninsula.
