In collaboration with the surgical team, and under the direction and supervision of a physician, assumes responsibility for the care and safety of the patients, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure. Additionally, assumes responsibility for ensuring effective communication with the circulator, charge nurse, the patient, the surgeon, anesthesia in other hospital departments. Responsible for integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field. Assists in the care of sterile supplies and equipment. Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation. Performs additional duties as directed by the Nurse Manager. Responsible for compliance to hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations, as well as those of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Additional Job Description
Education: A degree in Surgical Technology through an accredited school of Surgical technology or appropriate training program for surgical technology through the United States military or the United States Public Health System. Certification Required.
Minimum Training: 5 years of operating room technician experience in orthopedic surgery required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
