Clinical Research Assistant
Pathology Research
Under the direction of the Director and Associate Director of Clinical Research, the Clinical Research Assistant supports the overall clinical research program as follows: receives research specimens and verifies identification on these specimens, verifies information on the written request, transfers this information into the computer system and sends the specimen to the appropriate testing area(s); retrieves and enters data points from reports, and medical records, cancer registry according to privacy policy and protocol; organizes and maintains study files and materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
1. Provide administrative and secretarial support for the director, associate director and other faculty members and laboratory staff, as necessary.
2. Serve as support for the preparation of correspondence, manuscripts, abstracts and other duties as necessary.
3. Utilize the laboratory information system (LIS), Microsoft Office and other information systems to generate and enter accurate data.
4. Utilize the LIS for inquiry and to perform searches or produce data as assigned according to standard practices. Utilize computer systems generate invoicing details, worksheets, and reports as assigned according to standard laboratory practices.
5. Communicate effectively with physicians, residents, staff and other college and hospital departments.
6. Perform basic and advanced keyboarding skills needed for a highly computerized laboratory environment.
7. Verify that demographic information on specimen corresponds to that on the test order requisition.
8. Verify specimen acceptability according to laboratory procedures.
9. Identify specimens to be shared with other laboratory departments and follows appropriate interdepartmental procedures for shared specimens.
10. Accession test requests into the research laboratory testing process.
11. Assist in maintaining, ordering and restocking supplies.
12. Contact attending physicians, residents, study sponsor as necessary to clarify unclear requests.
13. Package specimens for transport.
14. Maintain records and logs.
15. Maintain and update files on all past and present research studies according to the applicable standards.
16. Log calls and perform follow-up to resolve outstanding issues in a timely fashion.
17. Serve as courier between laboratories and offices.
18. Organize, file and re-file study materials (binders, records, blocks and slides).

Education, Licensure, Registration and/or Certification:
- College Degree and/or commensurate experience; minimum of five to seven years of managerial experience
