Job Description

Summary

As a key member of the VTL Precision Team, help manufacture and deliver on time, high volume, precision machined, automotive components to the required quality standard and cost.

Essential Functions of the Role / Grade > other duties may be assigned.

Grade 1 Function

· Ensure process is loaded and unloaded as and when required to maintain hourly output.

· Complete defined inspection checks to ensure quality of product meets required specification.

· Identify and separate any rejected part that does not meet the defined quality requirement.

· Ensure that all product is handled and packaged in line with packaging instructions.

· Escalate any machine or equipment problems or stoppages to the shift technician or engineer.

· Escalate any quality problems or excess scrap to the shift quality technician, engineering technician or site manager.

· Keep machine and surrounding work area clean, safe and well organized.

· Record production results, quality checks and scrap bookings as required.

· Ensure adherence to shift output targets.

· Ability to operate a single process or machine.

· Must be reliable, on time and able to work rotating shifts.

Grade 2 Additional Functions

· Ensure machine or cell is loaded and unloaded as and when required to maintain required hourly output.

· Ensure that work specifications, control plans and standard work instructions are followed and adhered too.

· Ability to use and read dial indicators, chamfer gauges, calipers, plug gages and other measuring device to ensure quality standards are met.

· Responsible for all 5S and general housekeeping daily. Following 5s checklist complete any major cleanup on the line / area as required.

· Respond to and escalate to technician, any machine alarms or error messages.

Grade 3 Additional Functions

· Ensure CNC machine or cell is loaded and unloaded as and when required to maintain required hourly output.

· Ability to safely start and stop machine or process including robot and any ancillary equipment.

· Using HMI and NC controller, monitor tool life messages and ensure worn cutting tools are replaced at the required time

· Ability to carry-out basic insert changes and understand the importance or cutting tool cleanliness.

· Ability to load and unload CMM machine and interpret data and make necessary machine offsets to maintain good process.

· Ensure that S.P.C Charts, production logs and any checklists are completed on time, where applicable.

· Escalate any material, consumable packaging shortages as soon as possible.

· Correctly top up cutting fluids and oils.

Grade 4 Additional Functions

· Ability to safely power up and down equipment in a safe manner in accordance with operating procedures.

· Determine causes of machine malfunctions and make adjustment(s) or repair(s) to maintain good running condition.

· Ability to remotely set cutting tools and sister tooling.

· Responsible for changeover of machine or cell in a safe and efficient manner.

· Ensure all material and product is removed prior to change over.

· Adhere to the correct procedures when changing the machine over, applying S.M.E.D techniques where applicable.

· Ensure maintenance checklists sheets are filled in correctly and any issues are escalated.

· Perform basic operational preventative maintenance according to checklist.

· Ability to help collect data as required to assist in continual improvements activity.

· Assists in the training of others to current or new working methods, ensuring that all personnel are competent to perform the required tasks.

Grade 5 Additional Functions

· Demonstrates strong understanding of process fixturing, work holding and tooling and importance of cutting fluids.

· Ability to understand and troubleshoot automated systems, robotics, and vision systems.

· Ability to understand, troubleshoot and use automated gaging and wash systems. e

· Using basic problem-solving techniques, able to complete analysis on a variety of possible production faults, to determine root cause and help implement preventative or corrective actions to eliminate reoccurrence of the problem.

· Ability to read and blueprints and geometric & trigonometric principles.

· Ability to run a variety of CNC machines or Cells within the Company.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Training of other operators as and when required.

· Ensure flexible working within the Company as and when requested.

Quality:

· Adhere to the VTL QIP principles at all times

· To assist with the compliance with all quality systems and procedures: TS16949, Environmental Management Systems, Customer specific quality systems and general quality assurance methods.

· To aid in the generation of procedures and work instructions that meet the requirements of the Quality Standards.

HSE:

· Adherence to oil waste management systems and procedures.

· Adhere to safe working practices at all times.

· Ensure all PPE is available and used correctly.

· Assist the Site Manager in the implementation of the HS&E Management System and take an active role in raising the Company's HS&E performance.

· To ensure adherence to the company HS&E Policy and objectives and comply with specific legal duties applicable to your role in collaboration with Group HS&E support.

Materials / Tools:

· Ensure the machines you are responsible for are kept in good working condition. Report any major maintenance issues immediately.

· Ensure all checking / measuring equipment is checked for wear and accuracy

· Quality systems manual

· Current ISO / IATF16949

· ISO:14001

· OHS:18001

· General quality assurance methods – SPC, FMEA, trials, audits etc.

· World Class Manufacturing Tools – 5s, SMED, Kaizan, Kanban, etc.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully in a team based environment that heavily emphasizes quality, performance, cross-training, customer service and high accountability. Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds required. Education and/or Experience:

· High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of CNC experience and/or training.

Physical Demands:

Prolong standing, walking and reaching with hands and arms, frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, bending, crawling, climbing and kneeling. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.

Work Environment:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment, noise level is moderate. Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 40 pounds. Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, hardhats, gloves, aprons. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. Exposure to chemicals and/or fumes probable.

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
