University Analytics and Institutional Reporting (UAIR) is the driving force for analytics at the University of Utah. Our team is comprised of data experts who are passionate about our mission. You’ll join a group of data professionals who turn complex university data into meaningful, highly valued information that is trusted by university leadership to drive strategic decisions.

We are searching for a business data analyst who will be responsible for extracting, compiling and analyzing institutional data to fulfill data inquiries from a variety of campus stakeholders. The business data analyst will be responsible for the creation of reports, dashboards, and/or analyses from several data sources. The business data analyst will also provide expertise on institutional data availability, data definitions, and best practices in utilization. Experience with data analytics, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative setting are crucial to this role. This position will report to the Manager of Analytics within UAIR.

WORKPLACE
Like many areas at the University of Utah, UAIR is primarily a remote-work environment. As such, it is intended that this position will be mainly remote with occasional, but infrequent, in-person meetings on campus. It is possible for some initial training and onboarding to be in-person. We expect to continue our remote-work arrangements and will review this annually.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates and consults with campus leadership, staff, and administrators from a variety of colleges, departments, and offices to fulfill data inquiries.
  • Queries and retrieves data from a variety of sources including university data warehouses and UAIR data structures.
  • Creates reports, analyses, and data sets to assist campus stakeholders in decision-making, administration, assessment, and the implementation of actionable initiatives.
  • Designs, maintains, and manages dashboards.
  • Assists in reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual UAIR reports.
  • Supports program reviews, accreditation, and grant proposals/tracking.
  • Provides analytical support for other related requests and projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Department Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand quantitative data analyses, reports, patterns and insights.
  • Experience with data management, data visualization, and data analysis tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, SQL, SAP Web Intelligence, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, SAS, R).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

Preferences
PREFERENCES
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, Social Sciences, or equivalent fields.
  • Experience with higher education databases (e.g., Peoplesoft, data warehouses, and Oracle databases).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with higher education leadership, staff and administrators.
  • Ability to engage, create, and communicate statistical and predictive analytics.
