The Marion County Crisis Center provides 24hr, 7days a week walk-in mental health services to the greater Salem area and all of Marion County. The Crisis Clinician in this position will provide crisis mental health assessments to individuals in need as well as brief case management, resource identification, and referral options. This individual will be knowledgeable about the community options and services available. Specifically, this position will offer the opportunity to engage the Salem community in identifying services and resources that will support and empower clients in the community. This position may serve both Woodburn and Salem locations.

Mental Health Specialist 1: $23.82 - $31.91 hr
Mental Health Specialist 2: $28.88 - $38.75 hr
MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST 1 DESCRIPTION:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans and carries out recreational, social and skills training activities; performs case management and counseling functions with consumers and their families; facilitates counseling and/or skills training groups; performs related duties as required. Primary responsibility of this class is case management and counseling, without responsibility for developing and implementing specific programs in the community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under supervision of a supervisor who assigns work, establishes goals, and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED

MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST 2 DESCRIPTION:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Provides independent functional assessment and treatment of clients; provides crisis intervention services; assists in the development and implementation of behavioral health services to the community, including treatment groups; performs related duties as required. Primary responsibility of this class is to provide crisis intervention, case management, and treatment services, including intensive services, to consumers and their families and/or to develop and implement specific services in the community.

Works under the supervision of a supervisor who assigns work, establishes goals, and reviews the results obtained for overall effectiveness.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Primary supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. May act as a Clinical Supervisor designee when needed. May assist in the supervision of practicum students and/or volunteers.
Counseling to Crisis Clients
Provide counseling by telephone or in-person to individuals in crisis and/or their families or concerned others. Intervene with both children and adults presenting problems covering the full range of personal needs and include thoughts/plans or violence toward others, and major psychiatric illness. Because of the wide spectrum of presenting problems, it is necessary to have a comprehensive knowledge of psychopathology and to be able to draw upon a wide range of therapeutic strategies in counseling. This work is done at two different locations each day (at the Salem Hospital Emergency Dept. and at PCC), so driving is required.
Assessment of Mental Status
Perform independent assessment of mental status, diagnosis, level of functioning, dangerousness, and specific needs for services. Screen individual for psychiatric hospitalization.
Planning Development
Develop plan with client/family to address immediate needs and plans to obtain services. If client is unwilling to seek services, make decisions regarding involuntary commitment based on dangerousness and ability to care for self.
Community Coordination
Maintain current knowledge of, and contact with, community agencies in order to make referrals appropriately. See that clients gain access to the services they need, and do follow-up work as needed, to make certain that client’s needs are being met.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of community mental health concepts and/or chemical dependency case management and treatment services; individual assessment, treatment planning and treatment protocols; mental health disorders and diagnostic classifications.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with other employees, individuals and their families, other agencies, and the public; prepare concise and complete clinical documentation related to individual treatment and progress in services in a timely and professional manner; work within a team and collaborate with team members; knowledge of and ability to act professionally with regard to a code of ethics and confidentiality.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; sees using depth perception; sits; moves about the work area; lifts and carries up to 10 lbs.; operates a keyboard; speaks with a clear and audible voice; reads a 12 pt. font; and hears a normal speech level.
