Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Experimental Systems Group, is seeking an Operations Manager to support the team in Herndon, VA.
We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies. Our ground design and mission team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.
Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and operations of products in their relevant environments.
The Operations Manager will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to develop and implement department business and technical strategies, manages department resources and provides oversight and approval on technical approaches, products and processes.
Position Responsibilities:
Manages ground operations team across several disciplines including 24x7 mission critical positions
Ensures team maintains training / certification to meet program requirements
Develops and implements integrated departmental plans to ensure business, technical and customer requirements are achieved
Reviews implementation plans, execution, makes appropriate, adjustments, and resolves issues
Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance within their department
Promotes employee recognition and builds a departmental culture that improves employee satisfaction and retains a skilled and motivated workforce
Applies budget management principles and practices to manage multiple projects, processes and/or departmental units
Monitors departmental financial metrics to support budgetary planning and to determine appropriate corrective actions
Implements strategies to improve open and honest communication within the department. Communicates policies and directives to enhance employee awareness and clarify expectations
Ensures engineering best practices are adopted in all processes and procedures implemented across the program
Rotating on-call support and occasional shift and weekend work.
Successfully completed a Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
5+ years’ experience with program management, engineering and/or operations.
5+ years’ experience working on satellite ground/spacecraft systems.
3+ years’ experience leading technical or engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Program/Project Management experience
Experience with engineering best practices
Experience working in or leading teams supporting 24x7 operations
