  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
  • Experience leading engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

Amazon has co-founded and signed The Climate Pledge, a commitment to reach net zero carbon by 2040. In alignment with this bold corporate goal, the Amazon Devices & Services organization is looking for a Principal Product Manager to invent and deliver products for a zero carbon future. As a team, we leverage cutting edge machine learning, sensors, smart home devices, cloud services, material science, and Alexa to build products that have a meaningful impact for customers and the climate. This position requires energy domain expertise, in-depth technical knowledge of complex software and machine learning solutions, an analytical and data driven approach, and demonstrated experience successfully building and launching loveable customer facing products and services.

You will work backwards from the customer to define the problem(s) we are trying to solve, desired customer experience, vision, tenets, product strategy, and requirements. You will communicate a compelling product vision and drive innovative product concepts from idea to launch. You thrive operating in an ambiguous environment and can deliver the right product solutions independently, with limited guidance. You are able to operate at multiple levels, and are equally comfortable deep diving into complex architectures and technical solutions to influence technical trade-offs with engineering and scientists as you are designing wireframes and building financial models.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading a new or existing customer device from concept to release, proven ability to develop strategic vision based on the customer, and excellent verbal and written communication skills with senior leaders across all stakeholders. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, know how to deliver, are deeply technical, highly innovative, and long for the opportunity to build pioneering solutions to highly impactful challenging problems, we look forward to talking to you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Understand and articulate customer needs, conduct on-going customer research (in partnership with research team), leverage internal knowledge and expertise, and prioritize requirements
  • Be a passionate advocate for the customer; provide the voice of the customer
  • Manage the entire product life cycle from inception to launch: translate end-to-end customer experiences into clearly defined product requirements and manage prioritization and trade-offs to ensure delivery of a great customer experience
  • Generate buy-in for the product vision with leadership and partner teams
  • Evaluate business opportunities, defining and re-defining business models and applying, or creating, new and emerging technologies
  • Create the business case. Determine the product pricing, product cost and go to market strategy.
  • Be the domain expert for your product line tracking trends, new technologies, and opportunities to partner

  • MBA and/or relevant Masters Degree
  • Experience building V0 to V1 products
  • Experience defining a product roadmap and leading programs that meet aggressive goals and deadlines in a regulated industry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to senior executive audience.
  • Strong persuasion skills and ability to create buy-in for a bold vision
  • Experience creating product specifications, performing competitive analysis, and/or market research
  • Experience building a channel strategy
  • Technical proficiency demonstrated through technical degree or equivalent work experience
  • Analytical aptitude and data-driven problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work gracefully and have a bias for action in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and welcoming team environment
