Job Overview
Under direct supervision, assists in the operation of the campus-wide, multi-material Recycling Program, including lifting and emptying heavy recycling containers, processing materials and cleaning and disinfecting recycling vehicles; collection areas and collection containers. Ensures that all recycling areas are clean, fully functional and operational.
This position reports directly to the Supervisor, Recycling and Waste Management along with three Heavy Vehicle Operators and three Recycling Laborers.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
The incumbent works mainly with employees in the Recycling and Waste Management area and Facilities Management department, but as work is being performed, may interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors as they traverse the campus. It is important that the employee work cooperatively with fellow employees to assure work is completed on time and according to specified plans.

Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Level: High School
Degree Program (list): Completion of tenth grade
Practical Experience (years needed and type required):
Two years of experience performing general or labor work directly related to recycling and solid waste management.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:
This position may require the incumbent to operate University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts, etc.). As such, the incumbent must possess a medical card and/or certificate issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which is issued by a licensed “medical examiner,” after completion of a DOT physical examination as defined in GU Policy 1017 and DOT Regulations 391.11 (4) – Medical Card/Certificate and 390.5 (1) – Commercial Motor Vehicles (10K+) Definitions (

).
A valid driver’s permit from Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia is required.
Other Skills:
Must have good verbal communication skills. Must be highly motivated, able to work independently and concerned with recycling and environmental issues.
