The Training Specialist II is a full-time 3-year position, grant funded by the state of Alaska Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of the grant is to provide youth residential care agencies with effective and efficient training programs in order to ensure quality care and treatment for Alaska youth in care.

The responsibilities of the Training Specialist II include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Extensive travel throughout the state of Alaska
  • Conduct training needs analysis and prepare and present reports including.
    • Quarterly reports,
    • Year-end reports,
    • Logic models,
    • Grant proposals (such as continuation grant proposals)
  • Design, development, and implementation of competency-based training using multi-media approaches.
  • Facilitate training, using the principles of adult learning, in classroom and individual coaching settings.
  • Training topics include but are not limited to:
    • CPR/First Aid
    • MAB, RCYCP
    • TIP
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • QPR
    • FASD 101/201
    • Mandt
  • Develop evaluation and survey instruments to measure effectiveness of training and return on investment.
  • Collaborate with various providers, state agencies and the university system to ensure training needs are identified, met, created, revised, and implemented with the support of agency/university staff.
  • Complete responsibilities independently, to seek supervisory consultation as needed.
  • To abide by all safety rules and regulations of the facility
  • All responsibilities of the Training Specialist II are carried out according to AK Child & Family policies and the mission of AK Child & Family and its philosophy of care.
  • The Training Specialist II assumes additional duties as assigned.
  • All positions at AK Child & Family may have responsibilities altered during the course of employment due to agency imperatives.

All employees with AK Child & Family are required to be in compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid COVID vaccine mandate. The mandate requires that by 2/14/22, staff at all health care facilities must have received their first dose of a 2-shot series (Moderna or Pfizer, currently) or a single dose of a 1-shot vaccine (Johnson and Johnson, currently) with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate. Staff must complete this step before they can provide any care, treatment or other services for the facility and/or its patients. By 3/15/22, all staff with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate, must complete the primary vaccination series.

PAY:

  • $50,000 +DOE
  • Bonus in the amount of 1.5% of annual salary after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period and another at the 1-year anniversary.



Supervision and Coordination of Services:

  • The Training Specialist II reports directly to the Training Manager and is a member of the Training Department.
  • The Training Specialist II collaborates with a variety of staff across the agency, as well as with other agencies.



Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The Training Specialist II must demonstrate the ability to manage complex training projects and must have an extensive knowledge of the training process i.e.: adult learning, training design and facilitation.
  • They must be proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite.
  • They must have demonstrated skills in interdisciplinary teamwork in addition to excellent skills in written, interpersonal and oral communication are essential.
  • The Training Specialist II must have basic knowledge of statistical processes and will be expected to become competent at using a computer-based data management and analysis tools (such as SPSS).
  • A strong knowledge of the English language, with the ability to produce technical materials, written reports (such as logic model) and to communicate effectively with professionals from both rural and urban settings face-to-face, in writing, or on the telephone.
  • The Training Specialist II must demonstrate basic knowledge of provision of care and treatment of emotionally and or behaviorally disturbed youth including, but not limited to trauma-informed care, discipline, teaching skills and meeting basic needs.

Education and experience:

  • At a minimum a bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or a related field from an accredited school is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in training design and delivery.
  • Must have experience working with children and adolescents: preferably in a residential setting.



Physical Demands:

  • The Training Specialist II must have the ability to work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal, to lift books and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, to work at machines and tables 44” high, to work in file cabinets 55” high, and to operate a vehicle in the state of Alaska.
  • They must be able to travel a minimum of 5 days per month.
