Duties

Include but are not limited to:

Perform transport duties per PBNDS and Training.

Ensure all detainee transports are documented and detainee records and possessions are safeguarded at all times during transport; provide trip documentation to the Shift Supervisor.

Notifying supervisor if trip route is altered.

Ensure, that any required detainee documentation is obtained from the transferring activity prior to departure.

Ensure maintenance and service records are in Vehicle Binder.

Report any safety related transportation issue immediately and that any vehicle with a safety issue is not utilized for transport until repairs are completed.

Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections with the Transport Supervisor.

Ensure all required equipment for detention transport is present in vehicles; such items include first aid kit, accident investigation kit, proof of insurance, safety flares, restraint equipment, etc. (See Transportation Detention Standard for complete list.)

Report for work promptly at shift commencement. Muster with shift supervisor, if applicable.

If assigned to a stationary hospital post, ensure compliance with Post Orders and hospital protocol.

Ensure Supervisor provides a credit card, cell phone, and that you are carrying your driver’s license, medical certificate (if required) and weapons permits prior to departure. Turn in credit card and phone after each trip.

Complete trip logs and vehicle inspection forms prior to and after each trip.

Forward receipts for fuel to the shift supervisor.

Report all accidents, incidents, injuries related to transportation function to the shift supervisor.

Complete all Transportation metrics forms for each trip and provide to shift supervisor.


Prerequisites

All employees working as Detention Transportation Officers shall have as a minimum one (1) year of experience as a law enforcement officer or military police officer, or six (6) months experience as a security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative detainees, or successful completion of a term of active military service of at least one (1) year with an honorable discharge.

Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing;

Computer skills including proficiency in various Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Organizational skills commensurate with position.

Class A Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement.

Valid DOT Medical Card

Physical Requirements

Required to drive, stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and climb stairs for prolonged periods of time.

Must be able to crouch, kneel, or run periodically.

Must be able to grip, squeeze, and repetitively use fine hand movements.

Must be able to run with a fire extinguisher for long distances if necessary.

Required to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.

Required to occasionally lift 50+ lbs.

Must be physically capable of responding to emergency situations that could include fire, or physical altercations.


Work Environment

Work areas will include transport vehicles (buses, vans) and may include any areas of secured facility. May include any of the following on any shift:

May work alone or with minimal supervision.

Work is in a correctional facility or transporting detainees, requiring attentiveness to surroundings and safety.

May be exposed to sharp objects or blood borne pathogens.

Exposure to outdoor sun and climate conditions for extended periods is possible.

Sitting for long periods of time in an office environment or in a vehicle for 8 or more hours per day.

Exposure to noise may be frequent.

Exposure to chemicals.
