Position Summary

Fermilab’s Information Technology Division is looking for a Windows Operating System Engineer consultant for a 1 year contract. The Information Technology Division (ITD) is the IT arm of the laboratory. The primary goals of ITD are to, Keep current operations running smoothly, Provide the network infrastructure and services for scientific programs and the laboratory, Sustain and improve core IT services used by the Scientific Information Technology Division and the laboratory, Modernize Fermilab’s information systems and services and work to improve business processes


Length of Contract- This is a 12 month contract


Responsibilities:

  • Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader.
  • Assist in the planning, deployment, and operations of central management infrastructure for the laboratory’s fleet of 3000 Windows laptops, and Desktops.
  • Provide tier 3 support for general IT services for Windows desktops, laptops, and central management infrastructure
  • Work to resolve security related issues as identified on Windows laptops, and Desktops
  • Work to resolve security related issues as identified on Android base mobile devices
  • Update documentation and knowledge base articles relating to Windows operating systems and related technologies
  • Participate in projects as a representative of the company
  • Generate reporting
  • Assist in the planning, deployment, and operations of central management infrastructure for the laboratory’s Android based mobile devices
  • Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent training and experience required
  • 5+ years of experience using and supporting Windows required
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, etc. desirable
  • Experience working on multi-person cross-functional projects
  • Experience supporting standard Windows hardware
  • Ability to identify, design, and implement improvements to the Windows desktop environment
  • Experience in security scanning and remediation in a Windows environment
  • Experience with Windows central management tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Intune, and centrally managed Endpoint Security software
  • Experience with desktop encryption software such as Bitlocker
  • Experience with centrally managed Android based mobile device
  • Steward the organizational culture with a focus on teamwork and commitment to service amidst a diverse colleague and customer base.
  • Ability to quickly adapt focus, adjust schedule and problem solve to meet evolving work demands and needs of supervisor and other stakeholders.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also work independently and balance multiple competing priorities and tasks.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.

  • Prior knowledge or experience working with a Native American Tribe.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel may be required, up to 10% of the time. The travel may be local or national and may be by car, rail, or air.
