Summary of Responsibilities:


This position is idea for a Clinical Therapist who wants to focus on providing outstanding care to youth and adolescents in Alaska. To succeed in this position, you must want to work with a supportive and collaborative team.

The Residential Clinical Therapist (Res CT) is responsible for the provision of comprehensive clinical and case management services to students and their families. This includes:

  • Providing individual, family, group therapies
  • Crisis intervention
  • Discharge planning
  • Formulating and implementing appropriate treatment strategies for students and their families on their assigned caseload
  • Providing timely and satisfactory documentation of all treatment efforts.
  • Adhering to standards and regulations as set forth by the agency, The Joint Commission and OCS licensing.
  • Abiding by all safety rules and regulations of the facility.
  • Carrying out all duties according to AK Child & Family policies, and mission of AK Child & Family and its philosophy of care.
  • Assuming additional duties as assigned.
  • All positions at AK Child & Family may have responsibilities altered during the course of employment due to agency imperatives.

All employees with AK Child & Family are required to be in compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid COVID vaccine mandate. The mandate requires that by 2/14/22, staff at all health care facilities must have received their first dose of a 2-shot series (Moderna or Pfizer, currently) or a single dose of a 1-shot vaccine (Johnson and Johnson, currently) with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate. Staff must complete this step before they can provide any care, treatment or other services for the facility and/or its patients. By 3/15/22, all staff with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate, must complete the primary vaccination series.

Pay:

  • $55,000 + DOE
  • $65,000 + DOE if licensed in the state of Alaska
  • Bonus in the amount of 1.5% of annual salary after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period and another at the 1-year anniversary.



Supervision and Coordination of Services:

  • The Res CT reports to the Director of Residential Services.
  • The Res CT collaborates with all other disciplines through interdisciplinary teamwork and assigned committee responsibilities.
  • The Res CT is a member of the clinical services department and coordinates clinical services with all members of the treatment team.
  • The Res CT adheres to the professional ethics of the American Psychological Association or the National Association of Social Workers (M.S.W. only).
  • The Res CT collaborates and coordinates services with all staff via established committees and performance improvement activities.



Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Res CT must have the ability to relate to and experience in working with emotionally and behaviorally challenged children/adolescents and their families in a psychiatric or residential setting.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and assessment, child/adolescent development, family systems therapy, separation and loss, physical/sexual abuse, trauma, individual and group therapies is essential.
  • Demonstrated psycho-social assessment, treatment planning, advocacy skills and case management skills; excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills; creativity/flexibility on delivery of services; and the ability to function on an interdisciplinary treatment team are essential components of the position.
  • The Res CT demonstrates an understanding and sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and/or special needs population.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and ability to travel between campuses and within the community.
Education and experience:
  • A Res CT must hold a Masters’ Degree in psychology, counseling, or social work from an accredited school. Two years post-graduate experience working with emotionally and behaviorally challenged children/adolescents and their families preferred.
  • Experience working in a residential setting preferred.
  • Experience in cognitive therapies, sexual abuse treatment, play therapy and family therapy is preferred, pending specific clinical assignment.
  • The Res CT must obtain a license to practice mental health counseling/psychology in the state of Alaska as soon as eligible to sit for the exam, but no later than two years from initial date of employment at AK Child & Family.



Physical Demands:

  • The Res CT must be able to drive a personal and/or AK Child & Family vehicle, transport students, and meet with families both on and off campuses.
  • He/She must produce in a timely manner, assessments and other documentation required by AK Child & Family, insurance and referral sources.
  • The Res CT must be able to produce legible student records and prepare reports using a computer.
  • He/She must be able to meet with DJJ, OCS, insurance, and other mental health personnel related to students and their families as well as for networking and professional growth in person and via telephone.
  • The Res CT must attend and participate in residential meetings on any AK Child & Family campus.
