Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Psychology, HCI/Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience leading User Experience Research.
  • Experience managing and coordinating global teams within a business growth and strategy setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in the Commerce/Payments space.
  • Experience influencing strategic decision-making via research insights and perspectives.
  • Experience applying a diverse set of research methodologies (e.g., interviews, focus groups, field and lab studies, diary study and surveys) and an understanding of their strengths/limitations.
  • Excellent leadership skills, and the ability to lead research in an ambiguous space, and work to define methods/approaches.

About the job

In this role you will be leading the user research team and the content design team to drive Google Payment experiences, managing the practical needs of product development with building a foundational knowledge base covering all facets of user needs, motivations, and desired experiences along the payment journey. You'll be the strategic partner to Product Management, Design, and Engineering leadership.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $246,000-$361,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of researchers developing insights for payments-related topics and a team of content designers develop trustworthy, personalized, scalable content for payments customers.
  • Partner with Payment UX, Engineering, and Product leadership to develop strategy, perspective, and narrative around trust that is user-centered and backed by research. Develop strategies for communicating research insights that build conviction and influence strategic decision making at the executive level.
  • Prioritize research in conjunction with our partners, raise the quality bar for research methods/communication within the team and across Google.
  • Partner with teams across Google to develop research-informed best practices around building for Payments and build communities of research around the commerce organization.
  • Plan, allocate, and advocate for resources across the team’s primary areas of responsibility, working with leadership to ensure alignment across the wider Payments team.
