The Patient Insurance Coordinator is responsible for managing the patient care process by assisting patients with coordinating their financial, insurance, and healthcare benefits services. This is a hybrid role, In-office & remote in the Modesto CA area.

Position is hybrid, in-office, visiting centers as needed and remote in the Modesto CA area.

About the Role

The Patient Insurance Coordinator is responsible for managing the patient care process by assisting patients with coordinating their financial, insurance, and healthcare benefits services relating to dialysis. The primary goal of the Patient Insurance Coordinator is to deliver excellent customer care within a professional atmosphere.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist patients in making informed insurance coverage choices
  • Manage American Kidney Fund (AKF) program for all Satellite Healthcare patients
  • Assist Social Workers with insurance knowledge and technical insurance benefit information to facilitate them with assisting patients in understanding insurance coverage options
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, social workers and billing office to resolve patient insurance issues and/or concerns
  • Provide monthly updates detailing statistics and status of patient populations with regard to insurance coverage to senior management
  • Work with AR Managers and Finance Team in analysis projects resulting from any system administration issues or patient insurance benefit issues
  • Perform analytical analysis and special projects as requested by the Executive Management Team
  • Establish monthly reporting of all patient services activities including AKF, revenue, financial assistance statistics and team productivity
  • Responsible for staying abreast of changes in Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing requirements; studies industry publications and online notifications, identifies important issues, and distributes highlighted information to Accounts Receivable Teams
  • Responsible for driving the Satellite Healthcare culture through values and customer service standards
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Healthcare Clinical systems
  • Ability to work independently (with minimal supervision)

Experience:

  • Two years of related experience in healthcare working with clinicians and patients
  • Some experience with hospital ICD-10 coding, discharge coordination process, outpatient admission procedures and benefit authorizations

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying

Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare administration or business administration preferred
